Robustness
Avoided is the alternatives minus the actual travel, in kg CO₂e per passenger: producing the fuel or electricity plus burning it. Building vehicles and infrastructure is left out.
The big number is the median of 2,000 Monte Carlo draws with its 90 % interval: the uncertainty of factors, loads and fuel use. The switches are choices. Each tick here is one combination of them; they are never blended into the range.
Route
Each arc is the main alternative entered for a journey. It replaces the legs beneath it; travel without an alternative counts the same in both worlds.
Local trips count in both worlds, unless an alternative skips the place. To fit the page, legs of the same mode merge first, then everything between destinations.
Timeline
Cumulative kg per passenger by date. A journey switches to its alternative on the day its last leg is done, so a saving shows up when the journey ends. Bands are 90 % intervals; dashed lines are planned travel.
Journeys
Each journey of the current comparison against its main alternative, with 90 % intervals. Hollow dots are the other alternatives for the same journey. Log scale: equal gaps mean equal ratios.
Sensitivity
One journey under every ferry share and occupancy setting, against its alternative.
- Per passenger: the whole ship on its passengers, freight ignored (upper bound).
- ISO 14083: split by passenger equivalents: passenger 1, car 1.3, truck 18.
- By mass: 100 kg per passenger against about 22 t per truck (lower bound).
- Occupancy: typical loads, or the head count entered.
The trip's ferries, split all three ways, are on the Method page.
Intensity
Grams CO₂e per passenger-km for each leg and each segment of the main alternatives, with the switches above. The factors behind them are on the Method page.
With “+ non-CO₂”, flights multiply their CO₂ by about 1.7 (1.2–3) for contrails and NOx at altitude. No other mode gets this.
